Sasha Reid is a young sculptor living and working by the ocean in Sydney. He has a particular relationship to the landscape and the history of our interactions with it. That can be seen in the organic forms and archeological references in his work. He is interested in balance and the tension between art and the viewer - the desire to touch versus "only look" conditioning. Sasha is a founding member of the Everso Secret order of the Lamprey - an art happening begun in Chicago in 1997 and now global. collaborated in Chicago with Terrance Karpowitz (co-founder of Pier Walk, Chicago), Kenneth Morrison and the postal guerrilas Michael Thompson and Michael Hernandez d' Luna, exhibiting at Pier Walk, Flotilla and in numerous group shows.
Since returning to Sydney in 2000 Sasha has won the Central Goldfields Sculptured - Young Sculptor award, has appeared in Sculpture by the Sea, 2000 and 2002, and made the final selection of the Royal Blind Society's Tactile Sculpture prize. He and fellow sculptor Joseph Sabadash staged an independent show in November 2002. In 2003 Sasha's had his first solo exhibition and his sculpture, Reclaiming Spirit, was unveiled as the Memorial to the Victims of the Bali Bombing at Dolphin Point, Coogee. In between work on private commissions Sasha is currently preparing for further solo shows.
